Medusa Dragon Information

The legends are true about Medusa Dragons: lock eyes with the snakes that dance like hairs on their heads and you'll be turned to stone! Thankfully, baby Medusas are born with only a single snake, so accidental eye contact will only immobilize you for a second. Consider it a vacation from the waking world! Choosing to raise a Medusa Dragon is actually choosing to raise a Medusa Dragon and a family of snakes. With the proper training, your dragon's head-snakes will learn to politely close their eyes when face to face with another creature to avoid unwanted turning-to-stonings.

Abandoned Medusa Dragons, those raised without the care of other Medusas or knowledgeable Caretakers, often have very strong legs. This is due to their untrained head-snake's proclivities for turning one another into stone; a mistake that instantly adds 20-30 pounds of granite to the dragon's already hefty head load. Epic Form Medusa Dragons were treasured by ancient kings for their ability to transform common materials into stone--the main ingredient for medieval castles. Because eye contact is required for transformation to take place, kings would employ artists to draw eyes on wooden blocks. Voila: cheap stone!

The Medusa Dragon is obtainable:

  • By purchase at the market for 1,300 Gold20px.
  • By purchase as a Limited Time Value Pack.
  • By breeding two dragons that collectively contribute Mythic, Green, and Purple to the type pool. If a parent has the appropriate minor types, missing requirements may also be added to the pool, even if neither parent has the originally required types. Minor types that have been split from other minor types can also contribute their component types to the type pool.
  • DISCLAIMER: When attempting to breed the Medusa Dragon, you may get other offspring instead. Check the Breeding Calculator to view all of the possible results of combining a particular pair of parents.

Parents Behavior

The Medusa Dragon has special behavior when it is used as a breeding parent. Unlike dragons with only basic types, it will obey the following rules:

  • When the Mythic type is alone in the pool, it will add pure dragons of its component types (Red and Yellow) to the list of possible outcomes, but it will not split into its component types. When Mythic is included in the pool along with one or more other types, the Mythic type can split into Red and Yellow. However, if it is split, then Mythic is no longer in the pool for the duration. Thus, the presence of Mythic in a pool will either add the Mythic type if it does not split or the Red and Yellow types if it does split. There is one exception to this rule, and that is when both parents possess the Mythic type. In this case, Mythic can contribute both itself and its split colors at the same time.
  • Although the Mythic type can split into Red and Yellow for breeding purposes, it still only counts as one type. This is important when considering the number of types for type-amount-dependent dragons such as the Diamond Dragon. Breeding a Forest Dragon with a Medusa Dragon only counts as three types: Green, Mythic, and Purple.

  • Medusa was one of the three gorgons mentioned in the Greek myth of Perseus. Like the Medusa Dragon, Medusa turned beings into stone, but not objects.
  • The Banshee, Beauty, Breeze, Daydreamer, Lovestruck and Sunken's designs are based upon the Medusa Dragon's, although there are differences between them.
