Onyx Dragon Information[]

Baby Form Juvenile Form
Onyx Baby Onyx Juvenile
Onyx Dragons are known for the hypnotic effect of their swirling black coats. Ten caretakers could gaze intently into the coat of an Onyx Dragon and see ten different visions. Some Caretakers believe that the visions they see in the coats of Onyx Dragons foretell dreams that have yet to come. The sight-bringing properties of onyx have long been studied, especially by dragon scientists. Onyx from the Dragon Realm is remarkably special in that it is only forged in the dead of night and has a different appearance by day. When transported to the human realm, onyx retains some of its supernatural properties, particularly manifested within Onyx Dragons.

Adult Onyx Dragons not only reward their Caretakers with glimpses into the unknown but have these glimpses themselves. Watch over your Onyx Dragon next time it sleeps. If it appears to be restless and playful while dreaming, prepare for a few days of excellent weather. If it seems fearful and withdrawn while having nightmares, it's best to stay in a few days. Epic Onyx Dragons have a beautiful, rich color, deep and pure as the night sky. They are drawn to the darkness of dusk and fly soundlessly through the air in the black of night. With their hulking frame and natural camouflage, you never need fear anything at night with an Epic Onyx Dragon on your Isle.

Availability[]

The Onyx Dragon is obtainable:

  • By purchase at the market for 2,000 Gold.
  • By breeding two dragons that collectively contribute Gemstone and Black to the type pool. If a parent has the appropriate minor types, missing requirements may also be added to the pool, even if neither parent has the originally required types. Minor types that have been split from other minor types can also contribute their component types to the type pool.
  • DISCLAIMER: When attempting to breed the Onyx Dragon, you may get other offspring instead. Check the Breeding Calculator to view all of the possible results of combining a particular pair of parents.

Parents Behavior[]

The Onyx Dragon has special behavior when it is used as a breeding parent. Unlike dragons with only basic types, it will obey the following rules:

  • When the Black type is alone in the pool, it will add pure dragons of its component types (Blue and Purple) to the list of possible outcomes, but it will not split into its component types. When Black is included in the pool along with one or more other types, the Black type can split into Blue and Purple. However, if it is split, then Black is no longer in the pool for the duration. Thus, the presence of Black in a pool will either add the Black type if it does not split or the Blue and Purple types if it does split. There is one exception to this rule, and that is when both parents possess the Black type. In this case, Black can contribute both itself and its split colors at the same time.
  • When the Gemstone type is alone in the pool, it will add pure dragons of its component types (Green and Blue) to the list of possible outcomes, but it will not split into its component types. When Gemstone is included in the pool along with one or more other types, the Gemstone type can split into Green and Blue. However, if it is split, then Gemstone is no longer in the pool for the duration. Thus, the presence of Gemstone in a pool will either add the Gemstone type if it does not split or the Green and Blue types if it does split. There is one exception to this rule, and that is when both parents possess the Gemstone type. In this case, Gemstone can contribute both itself and its split colors at the same time.
  • Although the Black type can split into Blue and Purple for breeding purposes, it still only counts as one type. This is important when considering the number of types for type-amount-dependent dragons such as the Diamond Dragon. Breeding an Onyx Dragon with a Forest Dragon only counts as three colors: Gemstone, Black, and Green.
  • Although the Gemstone type can split into Green and Blue for breeding purposes, it still only counts as one type. This is important when considering the number of types for type-amount-dependent dragons such as the Diamond Dragon. Breeding an Onyx Dragon with an Air Dragon only counts as three colors: Gemstone, Black, and Yellow.
